Purpose, scope and commitment

EIG commits to gender equality in how it is governed, how it works and what it delivers.

Avrupa Entegrasyon Derneği (association registry no. 34-258-059) adopts this plan for the period 10 February 2026 to 9 February 2029. It applies to board members, staff, volunteers, trainers and experts working on EIG activities.

Our mission is to support the integration of disadvantaged groups — including women, young people with fewer opportunities and vocational and blue-collar young adults — through education, youth work and European cooperation. Gender equality is part of that core work, not an add-on.

Objectives

  1. Keep balanced participation of women and men in EIG's governance, team and activities.
  2. Provide a safe, respectful working and learning environment free from gender-based violence and harassment.
  3. Build the gender dimension into EIG's training content, research and projects.
  4. Measure progress with sex/gender-disaggregated data and report publicly at least every two years.
Top-management commitment. The Board of EIG adopted this plan by decision no. 2026-2 on 10 February 2026. The President, Turgut Kaan Akkoca, is accountable for its implementation. This plan and all later versions are published on this website.
02

Dedicated resources and expertise

EIG assigns named people, working time and a budget line to this plan.

Gender Equality Focal Point

Uğur Keskin, appointed by board decision no. 2026-2; about 2 hours per week for GEP tasks.

Deputy focal point

Turgut Kaan Akkoca, President, so that confidential reports can always go to a second person. On request, a woman trainer or the external gender expert handles a report instead.

Board oversight

GEP progress is a standing item on the Board agenda at least twice a year.

Annual budget

€1,900 from core funds, plus gender-related costs written into project budgets: training, expert fees, accessibility and care support at events.

Gender expertise

Zeynep Buse Akşahin, external gender-equality expert, engaged at least once a year to deliver training and review this plan.

03

Data collection and monitoring

We collect sex/gender-disaggregated data every year and publish a monitoring report at least every two years.

Data are collected voluntarily, with a "prefer not to say" option, anonymised and stored in line with Türkiye's Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK) and the GDPR where partners require it. Small numbers are reported in ranges so no one can be identified.

First baseline: May 2026. First public monitoring report: February 2028, then every two years.
04

Training and awareness raising

Every staff member and decision-maker completes gender-equality training, including unconscious gender bias, at least once a year.

05

Measures and targets

Each of the five recommended thematic areas has concrete measures and a measurable target for the end of the plan period.

5.1

Work-life balance and organisational culture

  • Flexible hours and remote work for all staff where the role allows.
  • Meetings within core hours; no expectation to answer messages outside working time.
  • Care support at EIG events (childcare or an accompanying carer) budgeted in projects where possible.
Target

At least 80% of staff agree in the annual survey that EIG supports work-life balance.

5.2

Gender balance in leadership and decision-making

  • Neither women nor men hold more than 60% of Board seats, applied at each Board election.
  • Balanced speakers, trainers and facilitators at EIG events and in project teams.
Target

No gender above 60% on the Board and among project coordinators by the end of the plan.

5.3

Gender equality in recruitment and career progression

  • Gender-neutral job and volunteer calls that invite under-represented groups.
  • Selection panels of at least two people, with more than one gender where possible, using written criteria.
  • Equal access to training, mobility and lead roles; pay set by role, not by person.
Target

Applicant and selection data reviewed for every call; no unexplained gap above 10 percentage points.

5.4

Gender dimension in research and teaching content

  • Every new project proposal includes a gender analysis of its target group and activities.
  • EIG surveys and studies, including our AI literacy research, collect and report sex-disaggregated results.
  • Curricula and learning materials are checked for stereotypes and use inclusive language and examples.
Target

100% of new proposals and research outputs include a gender dimension.

5.5

Measures against gender-based violence, including sexual harassment

  • A zero-tolerance Code of Conduct signed by staff, board, volunteers and trainers.
  • A confidential reporting channel — info@eig.ist — handled by the focal point and deputy, with protection against retaliation.
  • A written procedure: acknowledge within 3 working days, investigate, decide and record; refer to authorities and support services where needed.
  • A named safeguarding contact at every youth activity.
Target

Code of Conduct signed by 100% of people covered; every report handled within the procedure's timelines.

06

Governance, review and adoption

The focal point reports to the Board twice a year; the Board reviews and renews the plan every two to three years.
